< back to Jim's blogAgainst the grain -Day 21 Birdsville

http://www.againstthegrain.org.au is the story of me and three mates. We all live in wheelchairs and in August we rode quad bikes all the way from Perth to Adelaide. We visited our crash sites on the way and one of us, Anton, got married, in Uluru. We tried to blog from the road, but we didn't have much time. I will start uploading our blogs now... I hope you enjoy our adventure....

Up early and started moving out of the pub and up to the Barracks at the Police station. Still no support vehicles so we only had the one change of clothes and nothing else. Sandy gave us linen and blankets which I do not think she will ever know how much they were appreciated by us all.
Spent the day cleaning bikes and removing mud. We took the belly plate off my Polaris and 2 men (well one was Rex) could not even lift it. Greg took it down to the local artesian pressure wash (warm water under pressure) and diud an unbeievable job. Sincerely appreciated Greg.
I now had suspension back.
Off to see Peter at the roadhouse who helped adjust up my rear springs (about 70mm) more spring compression on the Poalris RZRs.
Went for a test ride and very impressed to have suspension back.
A slow day with general maintenance being done.
With the Birdsville Horse races on next weekend the town is slowly growing and taking on an air of a festival.
Just before we went down to the pub we heard that the OKA's were coming outr of the Simpson desert and should arrive soon.
They had to come past the Police station so we waitred for them and greeted them with much excitement.
Park up the OKA's at the courthouse and down to the pub for drinks and stories of our seperate adventures since we last saw them.
They had been tracking us on the fatefull night into Birdsville via their satelite dish they set up in the desert. Theye were a bit worried watching our travels and I think were as excited as us when we eventually got to Birdsville that night.
The had lost a front left hand wheel of an OKA (Under my brother Andy's seat) of which they walked back down the track and found some of the wheelnuts.
A night of stories and excitement in the pub as we had all made it.
What a night
