< back to Peter's blogRoad Safety Idea

After the Road Safety meeting we had recently at the Pooraka Memorial Hall. The main thrust of a new idea was that cars, trucks and motorcycles display their headlights in inclement conditions. I would suggest that all vehicles manufactured for use on Australian roads after 2010 be manufactured that when the vehicles ignition is activated that the vehicles park lights automatically come on. This will enable all road users to see another vehicle from a considerable distance and lower the possibility of an accident due to the unawareness of the vehicles proximity.

Another major suggestion was to introduce driver awareness and driver training for people of all age groups.

Since our public meeting there have been several groups come forward with public meetings and inviting public comment around our state. I believe that our meeting was a failure due to the small attendance on the day. Sadly, i can not justify the personal expense of holding another public meeting for a handful of people to attend.

I still believe that we need to address road safety as it will not sort it self out. The government need to overhaul and reform the way that they are currently dealing with the issue of Road Safety.
