< back to Sarah's blogNews Media needs to back off!!

Its been 9 months since Lauren was taken from us. On May 25 2010 the news media let the world know the details of her accident by publishing sections of the ATSB report.

Its hard enough coming to terms and learning of the details in private, but the reprocussions of telling the whole world are far worse. Just now we've discovered the results of the pairs toxicology. As soon as we find out the terrible details it was on the internet via Adelaide Now, on news channels 7, 9 and 10 and on page 18 of todays advertiser.

The news media have no compassions for the familys and for the heartache they have now further contributed too. How dare they look at us as a money making story. It would seem they could care less about the negitivity they've brought around.

It hate you and truley hope that none of you have to suffer through losing a loved one.

Sarah, I’m so sorry to hear all you’ve had to contend with, on top of losing your lovely Lauren!

I haven’t had an experience like yours with the press, but my heart goes out to you with what you are experiencing. It is devastating enough without the intrusion of the press.

Big hugs from me, and know I’m here for you, message me if you feel like it.I’ll be thinking of you.

Ann xx

Sarah, that is so cruel for you all to have the details continually thrown back at you. They don’t understand that inside your dear Lauren, I’m sure was a beautiful soul, who had her own pain that she had to deal with, sadly her choices led to her tragic death. Do take care, thinking of you, Maureen x

I so very much agree Sarah.

It is terrible that the media can do this.

I have contacted The Advertiser and other media outlets (but The Advertiser seem to be the main offenders in this state) several times since my son’s accident asking if they realise the trauma they cause an already grieving family by doing this.

I have never recieved a response.

The Police report on my son’s accident have yet to be released – just as we are getting through another stage of grief, I guess we will once again go back a few stages once the media get hold of that information too.

My thoughts are with you. Josie xx

Sarah, After my sons’s accident the media used photos’ and made claims that were inappropriate and without our permission .
To them it’s news to us it’s hurt, pain and suffering . They will never understand unless it happens to them, but in saying that I hope and pray that they will never have to experience our pain for them learn exactly what it is like. There are too many of us at it is .

For a grieving family to get back from the hell they are living a positive needs to come from the senseless loss of a loved one. Negative news reports only serve to make it all the more painful. And the newspapers are not alone, the biggest offender is the insurance giant we pay to protect us.
We can only support each other for those who havent lived it have not a clue.. xx

Hi Sarah,

Im sorry that you had to endure such heartless actions by the media. When my son was killed in June last year we were warned by the social worker at the hospital that the media would get hold of the story and possibly make inacurate reports, so we made a point of not watching the news or reading the papers for a while. They did try and contact us via some of our friends and also got photos of Nick from his Face Book page to use on the news and they even staked out the crash site on the day of the accident so they could approach anyone comiming to have look in the hope of getting a story. I still hold my breath when I see a report of accidents as I know they often use file footage from other crashes but so far none have been of my sons crash. I did however go to the Adelaide Now site several month after and look at the archieve footage of the car after the crash and the news report but then I was able to control what I saw and prepare myself. On a positive note with the media, my husband and I have been approached several times to do road safety messages from both the Sunday Mail and a free lance journalist we did these interviews in the hope of getting the road safety message out there to the young ones and found the Sunday Mail reporter and the Freelance reporter very compassionate and only reported what we said was ok to use. So I hope you only have positive stuff from now on the last thing you need at a time like this is added stress.
Take Care
