I've been trying to come to terms with what went wrong and what happened at the trial into Daniel's Death.
I always had the belief that in a court of law the laws would protect the innocent and provide justice to victims.
I now realise there are two very different sides and two very different stories.
In our case our side and story was one of the tragic and horrific loss of our son.
On their side was a defendant and his legal team arguing in their belief that accidents do happen and it was just an accident.
We actually lived the horror and the pain that they didn't see or even want to.
We discovered Daniel was involved in a crash by coming across the crash scene. We saw our son on life support. We saw his head lying on a blood soaked pillow, we held him tightly as he took his last breath
We picked out his coffin and we decided what he was to wear as he was laid to rest. We lived, saw and shared the pain, the shock and the despair on the faces of our family and friends that moment when we told them Daniel had died.
We carried Daniel to his grave yes Daniel died of horrific injuries and we lived that horror.
To the accused and the defence team it was just a mere accident.
Yes they won their case or did they? What did they really win?
In winning perhaps they lost the very essence of morality and a piece of their own humanity , perhaps they lost the ability to love themselves and those close to them , perhaps they lost the opportunity to ever find peace within themselves .
Only they themselves will ever really know if winning was so much more important than taking responsibility for an innocent life lost or easing the pain for a family that knew true love .

If only the defence lawyers, judge, accused, could read your heartfelt blog surely they would have deep compassion and understanding?! I hope you were able to read your impact statement to the accused or are you unable to as he wasn’t charged? It’s unbelievable he is still allowed to drive, surely in his heart he would acknowledge that he is not capable! Do take care – warm regards, Maureen x
